Frances Elna Underwood

Frances Elna Underwood of Waco passed away Monday, November 26, 2007, at St. Catherine’s Center. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 29, 1:30 p.m., in the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, with Rev. Steve Ramsdell officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 28, from 6-8 p.m., at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Frances Elna Underwood was born December 24, 1917 in Bosque County to Robert Franklin Wooley and Emma Josephine Wooley. She graduated from Waco High School in 1935 and Baylor University in 1939. She married Loyde Underwood in 1941. Mrs. Underwood was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church and was the oldest member of her church at the time of her death. She joined the church as a child, was a member of the Odell Dudley Sunday School Class and a member of the Mission Study Group. Frances Underwood was a retired school teacher having taught school for 35 years at La Vega Elementary where she taught the 3rd grade. She worked at Baylor University as the credit manager during the summer months for eight years. Frances was a resident of Stilwell Retirement Center for 7 years prior to her death. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, who died in 1951 in a boating accident. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Priest and her husband, Larry; her son, Donald and his wife, Wendy; grandchildren, Matthew Underwood; Amanda Vieregg and her husband, Michael; Mike Priest and his wife, Susan; great grandchildren, Emily and Katherine Vieregg; sisters, Grace Hosey and Jo Heisserer and brother, Dr. Robert Wooley and wife, Pat; sisters-in-law Doris Gillen and Kathleen Underwood. The family would like to give special thanks to Nancy Dominquez, April Warren and other members of the wonderful Providence Hospice staff for their loving, dedicated care.
