Frances Evelyn Childers

October 2, 1916 — March 25, 2008

Frances Evelyn Woodlock Childers October 2, 1916 - March 25, 2008 Evelyn Childers, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 28, at the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, with burial to follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 27, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Evelyn was born on October 2, 1916, to Nell Corinne Brown Woodlock and William Clate Woodlock in Waco. She was the second of four sisters, Mary Nell, Evelyn, Ethel and Ann. This family was extremely loving and close-knit throughout their lives. Each member predeceased Evelyn, and she cared for each with great tenderness. In 1936 Evelyn married Lester Gideon Gid Childers. They loved and cared for each other throughout his life. Gid passed away in 1980. Evelyn supported Gid in all of his endeavors. They were blessed with three children, nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, so far. She was predeceased in 2006 by a precious great grandson. Evelyn was the rock of the family and was very actively involved until her health failed. She took care of everyone until it was her turn to be cared for, and she handled that with her usual grace. In addition to her extended family, Evelyn took great joy in her Sunday School class, the Willing Workers at St. John's Methodist Church and then Central United Methodist Church in Waco. That dear group of ladies shared their goodness with each other and served their members, their church and community throughout all these years, and they continue to do so today. Evelyn formed deep friendships with neighbors. For all of her years of widowhood she treasured the friendship of her next-door neighbor and friend, Mabel. Evelyn was a giver and a lady. She knew how to share fun, bear up in hard times, and give solace in the sad times. Hers was a life well-lived. Evelyn is survived by: her children, Bill Childers and his wife, Joan, of Waco; Beth Kucera and her husband, Charles, of Fort Worth; and Ann Hurst and her husband, T.C., of Corsicana; all of her grandchildren, sixteen of her great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Hester Fuller; a niece, Linda Nell Draper; and numerous nieces and grandnieces and grandnephews.
