Frances Guynes Stamper

August 10, 1934 — June 22, 2024

Frances Guynes Stamper, 89, of Houston, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at a private care facility in Bellaire, Texas.


A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Calvert Cemetery in Calvert, Texas with Jimmy Dorrell officiating.


Frances was born August 10, 1934, at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She grew up in Bellaire, Texas and attended and graduated from Bellaire ISD primary and secondary schools. In 1955, Frances graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Art History with honors. She was very active in the Alpha Phi Sorority at both local and national levels. Frances spent her career serving as the Assistant Director of the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, before returning home to Texas. While residing in the Houston area, Frances enjoyed furthering her hobbies in public relations and wine tasting. Frances was a sommelier at Richard's Wines in Houston, Texas, and founded and directed a long-time wine tasting group "The Pears and Figs in the Nose".


Frances was preceded in death by her father, Frank A. Stamper; her mother, Bessie Guynes Stamper; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.


Survivors include her first cousin, Beverly Whatley; and her second cousins, Marilyn Wachsmann and husband, Steve; Gail Jones; Daniel Henderson, Sr.; Randy Beard and wife, Renee; Ricky Whatley and wife, Karen; Susan LeFevre; Rodney Fuller and partner Sandra Plemons; and Brian Whatley and wife, Tanya.


The family of Francis Stamper would like to thank the following people for their loving care and concern for Frances: Sue Wooten of Bellaire, Texas, a devoted friend; Susan Davis at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church; Oasis Senior Advisors; Capstone Hospice; Ann Garcia and her caring staff at ComForCare Aging Services; and Bayou Manor Nursing and Rehab Facility, all located in Houston.
