Francisca Mendez-Acevedo September 27, 1942 - February 10, 2010 Francisca Mendez-Acevedo, 67, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Midwest Regional Medical Center, in Midwest, OK. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Lawrence Soler officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home by Dolores Barrios followed by visitation at 7:00 p.m. She was born September 27, 1942, one of seven children born to Anastacio and Juana Mendez. She married Marcos Acevedo on June 15, 1962. Francisca “Panchita”, as she was known to her friends, resided in Crawford, TX, for 23 years before moving to Waco. She moved to Oklahoma City in 2007, where she lived next door to her youngest daughter for the last two years of her life. Francisca was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the “Guadalupanas” and was instrumental in the building of the church by making tamales to raise funds. Her family remembers her most for her warm smile, her non-stop energy, her love of plants, and her endless love for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Martin Mendez; and a sister-in-law, Aurora Rubi Mendez. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Marcos; her children, Irma Dunnam and husband, Vance Jr; Petronila Barrios and husband, Ramon; Hilda Acevedo, Carolina Rodarte and husband, Juan; Marcos Acevedo, Jr., and wife, Irma; Maria de la Luz Mendez, and Olga Davila; 21 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Manuel, Julio, Florencio, Guadalupe and Antonio Mendez; several nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends. Pallbearers are Ramon Barrios, Juan Rodarte, Ranulfo Guerrero, Luis Mendez, Julio Mendez, Jr., and Martin Mendez. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Zewdie and Dr. Bhaktaram and the ICU staff in Midwest Regional Medical Center.
