Fred Morris Rogers

Fred Morris “Fritz” Rogers went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 8, 2006. Services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2006 10:00 am at Allison Funeral Home in Liberty, Texas. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the Allison Funeral Home in Liberty, Texas. Fritz was born in Daisetta, Texas, November 27, 1921. He was the son of Ella Maywald Rogers and Harry Odell Rogers. He was the youngest of seven children: Harry Jr., Jack, Vernon, Mabel, Gordon, and Nadine. He was a lifelong resident of Daisetta but due to his illness moved to Waco, September of 2005 to be with his daughter Harriet Shearer and family. Fritz was one of the last remaining members of the 1937-1940 Hull-Daisetta Bobcat Football teams that won 43 consecutive games. During that time, he was a running back and was a member of the backfield call “The Four Horsemen”. Fritz met and married the love of his life, Juanita Bolding, of Warren, Texas, on April 23, 1943. They had one daughter, Harriet Jane. They were married 52 years. Fritz had many interests but had one lifelong passion of raising horses. He raised most of the horses he owned, treating them as a pet rather than a workhorse. Fritz also enjoyed feeding and telling stories about his pet alligators. Other interests included deer hunting, fishing, building and welding, traveling, cooking, and sitting outdoors. Fritz was a member of the Hull Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and also served on Hull-Daisetta’s School Board and City Council. He gave 43 years of service to The Texas Company which later became Texaco. His jobs included production, derrick man to roustabout, gang pusher, and pumper. Following retirement, he worked for the Curtis Hankamer Company as a pumper. Fritz joined the First Baptist Church of Daisetta in 1950 and was baptized the same day as his daughter Harriet. He was a member of Central Baptist Church of Daisetta at the time of his death. Preceding him in death was his wife, Juanita Rogers in 1995, and his parents, brothers, and sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Harriet Rogers Shearer and son-in-law, Tom Shearer of Waco; Grandson, Steve Shearer, and wife, Teresa Shearer of Salado; and Granddaughter, Stacie Shearer Lathern and husband, Jeff Lathern of Waco. Great-grandchildren include Taylor and Samuel Shearer, Grant and Pearson Lathern, and step-granddaughter Hailey Lathern. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ruth Rogers of San Antonio and Betty Lou Maywald Whitley of Merryville, Louisiana, and two nephews and seven nieces. Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Rogers, Roy Bolding, Dr. Randy Froelich, Harvey Ashcraft, Frank Chalfant, and Nathan Barrier. Honorary pallbears include Jimmy May Sr., Harold McCann, Percy O’Quinn, Ed Theis, and Horace Young. Fritz will be buried with his loving wife and family in Oakdale Cemetery in Daisetta, Texas. Memorials may be made Central Baptist Church of Daisetta, Texas
