Frederick Bostwick, Jr. February 18, 1927 – January 31, 2016 Frederick deBurlo Bostwick, Jr., died January 31, 2016. He was 88. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4, with The Rev. Chuck Treadwell presiding. Fred was born February 18, 1927, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Frederick deBurlo Bostwick and Elizabeth Miller Bostwick. He was raised by his mother and her parents, Frank Lorenzo Miller and Flora Lacy Miller, at their home at 1211 Washington Ave. He attended Texas Military Institute and graduated from Waco High. After high school, he served in the United States Air Force. When World War II ended, Fred returned to Texas to continue his education. He was a devoted alumnus of the University of Texas, where he was an All-Conference swimmer and letterman on several Southwest Conference championship swim teams. After college, Fred met and married fellow Wacoan and University of Texas alumna, Jane “Pinky” Holt Bostwick. Together they moved to Sundown, Texas, where Fred began his career working in the lumberyards for Cameron Company. Within a few years, Fred realized his calling as a stockbroker. He and Pinky returned to Waco and, in 1958, Fred opened an office for Rotan Mosle. He spent countless evenings in his armchair with quarterly reports and a slide rule, plotting investment strategies. He continued investing on behalf of many loyal clients until 2014, when he retired at age 86. Fred was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He contributed his skills as an investment advisor to the Church Corporation of the Diocese of Texas, of which he served as trustee. Throughout the years, Fred served in a number of community leadership roles, including chairman of the Waco Rotary Club scholarship committee, chairman of the Waco Chamber of Commerce membership committee, treasurer of the Evangelia Home, and member of the advisory board of the Waco Art Center. Fred was blessed with close friends and family with whom he fished, hunted, sailed, and played tennis. Many summers were spent horseback riding, hiking, and fishing with family in Santa Fe and the surrounding Sangre de Cristos Mountains. Fred’s five grandchildren loved their “Boppa” dearly and share fond memories of him teaching them to fish at at Oak Lake and the ranch. Fred is survived by his wife, Pinky; sons, Rick Bostwick and Andrew Bostwick; grandchildren, Ellie Andres and husband, Peter, Doran Bostwick and husband, Adam Wright, Will Bostwick, Katherine Woodall and husband, JR, and Libby Adamek and husband, Dustin; and great-grandchildren, Sam and Emmy Andres, Cash and Wyatt Woodall and Ellie Adamek.
