Gary Ray Harper April 4, 1950 - April 12, 2014 Gary Ray Harper of Hewitt, Texas, joined loved ones in Heaven on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Dr. Ken Young officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Gary was born April 4, 1950, in Waco, Texas, to Charlie and Virgie Honea Harper. He met his wife, Karon, at Kim's Restaurant and they married on December 27, 1969. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1976 as a SP4. He was a very hard worker, who worked as a self-employed roofer and later as an employee for the U.S. Postal Service, until he retired in 1999. He was an incredible man who selflessly loved others. He left a life-long handprint on everyone he met. He was a devoted grandpa, who loved and cared for his grandkids with an unconditional love. There are not enough words to describe the kind of daddy he was to his girls. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karon Harper; daughter, Melissa; grandson, Mason; sisters, Viola Lee, Violet, Dorothy and Ann; brothers, Joe and Buddy; and mother and father-in-law, Pat and Buck Stookey. He is survived by daughters, Shonda Powers and husband, David, of Hewitt, Lindsay Johnson and husband, Perry, of Waco, and McKenna Harper of Waco; grandchildren, Brandon, Macy, Bryce, Aubree, Parker, Mariah, Eli, Noah, and Jaxon; sisters, Darlene, Sandra and Gracie; brother, John; several cousins; nieces and nephews; and loving girlfriend, Brenda. . Pallbearers are Cody Miller, Charlie Massingill, Sr., James Jones, Kevin Massingill and Don Coats. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Acton, John Den, Royce Glaser, John Harper.
