Gene H. Mixson of Midland, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Midland Memorial Hospital. His graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 3, at Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. Ed Carter officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Gene was born March 2, 1920, in West, Texas, to James G. Mixson and Gertrude Duke Mixson. After finishing Waco High School he entered Baylor University. Undecided about the future, he enlisted in the Army in the fall of 1940. After service the Army Air Corps, he was discharged in January of 1946, entered the Baylor Law School, graduating in 1948. Gene practiced law in Higgins, Texas, until 1953, at which time he was employed by Humble Oil and Refining Company in Midland as a Landman, and retiring from Exxon Company, USA in 1985. Gene was a member of the State Board of Texas, Midland Lodge 623 AF & AM and 54 years of membership in the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church of Waco and then in First Baptist Church of Midland. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of almost 50 years, Iris Lynette Mixson; two brothers, Wendell H. Mixson and James T. Mixson; two sisters, Juanita Spencer and Frances White. He is survived by nieces, Eleanor Davis of Waco, Margaret Eisenbeck of Austin; and nephews, Jim Mixson of Austin, Tom Mixson of Baton Rouge, LA, Mack Mixson and James White of Boulder, CO; and nieces and nephews of Iris Mixson, Eve Stilson and Don of Houston, Al Havemann and Susan of Dayton, OH, and special thanks to Barbara McClung, of Midland who has been Gene’s primary care giver since Gene’s wife’s death and also to Barbara’s sister, Cynthia Moates and Frank of Glen Rose, who also were much help and encouragement during these last years.
