Gene Lumpkin October 26, 1920 - February 7, 2011 Gene Elmer Lumpkin of Temple passed away Monday, February 7, 2011, at The Meridian. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 11, at Rosemound Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation. Gene was born October 26, 1920 in Mart, Texas to Elmer R. and Ruth Electa Simmons Lumpkin. He served in the Army during World War II and was deployed throughout Europe as an optician. He was part of the early development of the contact lens industry and owned Chandler Labs, a contact lens manufacturer in Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dorothy Warren Lumpkin. He is survived by his brother, Bob Lumpkin and wife, Frances, of Denver, CO; nephews, Scott and John Lumpkin, of Denver, CO; nephews Bill and Gene Goeke, of Cameron, TX; and niece Karla Riola, of Cameron, TX.
