Genevieve Gibbs Valentine October 15, 1920 March 18, 2013 Dorothy Genevieve Gibbs Valentine, writer, pianist and artist, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, in Austin, Texas after a long and fulfilling life. She was 92. A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Mrs. Valentine was born in Colorado on October 15, 1920, to Clarence and Ruby Howell Gibbs. She attended Waco High School where she was a cheerleader. She married Q.Z. Valentine in 1940, and they moved to Lexington, KY, where their daughter would be born. Returning to Waco after the war, Genevieve was active in the Grand Chapter of Texas Order of the Eastern Star, the arts and politics. Mrs. Valentine was a patron of the Armstrong Browning Library at Baylor University and the Waco-McLennan County Library. She was an accomplished writer, had a sharp wit, and was known to make one hell of a chocolate pie. On Monday, Mrs. Valentine was reunited with her parents, her husband, and her daughter, Valorie Jean Valentine Smith, as well as numerous friends and family who preceded her in death. Mrs. Valentine is survived by her granddaughters, Rochelle Dearman and husband, John, of Mooresville, NC, Robin Wiggins and husband, Jeff, of Austin, and Kippy Cooper of Lavon, TX; her great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Grayson Dearman, and Ethan Wiggins and Drake Cooper; her sister, LaValta Fowler; and nephew, Eddie Fowler III of Tyler, TX.
