George Albert Logan, Jr. July 29, 1914 - December 26, 2010 George Albert Logan, Jr. of Waco passed away Sunday, December 26, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 30, in the Christus Chapel at Providence Park, 300 W. Highway 6 in Waco with Deacon Dave Mayes officiating. A reception will follow the memorial service in the Providence Park Community Room. George was born on July 29, 1914, in Georgetown, Texas, to George A. and Louise Logan, Sr. He grew up in Georgetown, where he attended the public schools. He graduated from Texas A & M College with a degree in agriculture. George married Alexandria Ruth Lehmberg on November 29, 1939, in the First Methodist Church in Georgetown. He was the oldest great, great, grandson of G.W. George Washington Glasscock, for whom Georgetown, Texas, was named, and who donated the land for the county court house of Williamson County. George served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and continued to serve in the reserves, retiring at the rank of colonel. Soon after he returned from the war, he and Alexandria moved to Waco and became members of St. Johns Methodist Church, which later became Central United Methodist Church. He taught Sunday school and was an active member as long as he was physically able. Although he never owned a farm or ranch, George Logan loved agriculture. He worked with farmers and ranchers and supported them all of his working life. He was an assistant County Agent in McLennan County, an agronomist in the Soil Conservation Service, the agricultural manager in the Waco Chamber of Commerce and the West Texas Chamber of Commerce, and president of the Farm and Ranch Club of Waco. He was the vice president and agriculturist at the First National Bank of Waco, a member of the McLennan County Texas Veterans Land Board and Central Texas Economic Development Board, and was very active in the Heart of Texas Fair. George was also active in the Kiwanis Club and a Master Mason for over 50 years. He was a past president and past director of the Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Robert Logan; and a sister, Eleanor Langton. He is survived by his daughter, Anna Louise Logan, and son, Fred Logan and wife, Nancy Newman Logan, all of Waco; grandchildren, Vicki Peters of Sugar Land and Jim Logan of San Antonio; great grandchildren, Allyson and Matthew Peters, both of Sugar Land; and his younger sister, Mary Jo Mayes, lives in Georgetown, Texas. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring staff of both St. Elizabeth Place and St. Catherine Center at Providence Park.
