Banas, George George Banas, 72, passed away Monday, May 9, 2005 at his home. Services will be Thursday, May 12 at 3:30 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. The family will receive friends and family Wednesday, May 11 from 5 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home, 6101 Bosque. George was born on May 30, 1932 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to Nick and Mary Banas. He entered the service in 1952 as an Aircraft Mechanic in the Air Force, and while stationed at James Connally AFB, he met and married Doris Lena of Waco. While overseas, the couple’s only child Darryl, was born. George was an outstanding airman and served in the Korean War and Vietnam before retiring at Bergstrom AFB in 1973. The couple then moved to Waco which has been their home since. George was an excellent mechanic and enjoyed working in the yard. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two loving grandsons, Spencer and Ethan. George was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and three sisters. George is survived by his wife Doris; son Darryl and daughter-in-law Lori and grandsons, Spencer and Ethan.
