George Kazanas

George Kazanas of Hewitt passed away Sunday, January 6, 2008. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 10, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Father Theodore Ted Tsitsilianos officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The Trisagion Service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel and visitation with the family will follow. George Kazanas was born June 10, 1927 on the island of Chios, Greece. When George was nine months old, his family moved to the United States, and eventually settled in Waco, Texas. George graduated from Waco High School in 1945. He received a B.B.A. from Baylor University in 1949. After graduation, he served in the army during the Korean War. Upon his return, George moved to Houston where he met his wife of 47 years, Beverly. They married in 1960 and had two daughters, Kathleen and Kerry. George worked for the Rohan Company later became Certainteed Corporation for over 30 years. In 1991, he retired and moved to Dallas where George worked as a consultant for Ferguson Enterprises for eight years. George and Beverly returned home to Waco in 2000. George was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Church and was very active in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Waco. He was an avid golfer, and a supporter of Baylor University, especially the Lady Bears Basketball team and the Dallas Cowboys. George is preceded in death by his parents, Constantine and Koula Kazanas; and brothers, Nick and Steve Kazanas. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters, Kathleen Cotie and Kerry Giacomazza; grandson, Jimmy Cotie; sons-in-law, Robert Cotie and Major Danny Giacomazza; sisters-in-law, Betty Milligan and Anna and Katherine Kazanas; many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends. Pallbearers are Jimmy Kazanas, Stephen Kazanas, Dean Kazanas, George Kazanas, Don Cox, Jim Rokas, Tom Rokas, Michael Rokas and Chris Rokas. Memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 617 North 17th, Waco TX 76707.
