George L. Morris, Sr. August 2, 1921 - January 7, 2015 George L. Morris, Sr., of Waco passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at his residence. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Aaron M.G. Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. George was born August 2, 1921, in Houston, Texas, to Harry and Julienne Morris. He was a graduate of Rice Institute Rice University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later became a Registered Professional Engineer in numerous states. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific on the U.S.S. Shad 235 and continued in the Naval Reserves for a number of years after the war ended. He was employed by Brown and Root and later became a Senior Vice-President. He served as President of the Houston Engineering & Scientific Society. While living in Tomball, Texas, he was president of the school board for eight years and a board member for fourteen. Mr. Morris was also a long-time member of the Episcopal Church, with memberships at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Tomball, Texas, and St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Morris; and two sons, George Morris, Jr., and Brock Morris. He is survived by one son, Bruce Morris and wife, Charlotte, of Colleyville, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Linda Morris of Woodway, Texas; six grandchildren, Krisann Shoemaker and husband, Billywayne, of Freeport, Texas; Jenny Carl and husband, Leighton, of McGregor, Texas; Seth Morris and wife, Sherri, of Waco; Brett Morris of Dallas; Jill Morris and husband, Johnny McNulty, of New York City, New York; and George Morris III of Gatesville, Texas; eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
