George "Tom" Crockett, Jr. September 28, 1932 - September 11, 2009 George "Tom" Crockett, Jr. of Waco passed away Friday, September 11, 2009, after a more than two year struggle with lung cancer. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 14, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. The family will be receiving visitors continually at their residence. Tom was born September 28, 1932, in Waco to George "Tommie" and Travis Hand Crockett, Sr. He worked at General Tire and Rubber Company for 36 years. He attended schools at South Bosque and LaVega and later obtained his G.E.D. Certificate in 1970. He received an A.A. degree from McLennan Community College in 1974 and a B.B.A. from Tarleton State University in 1981. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. His various interests included Amateur Radio for 30 years, and he loved photography, bowling, and golf. Tom later was a dedicated volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels for 18 years. As his health declined, he found joy and great friendships at the Harrison Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Crockett, of Waco; two sisters, Marcelaine Fletcher and Bettie Yarber; two daughters, Chrisanne Kahler and husband, Kent, of Waco, and Megan Goebel and husband John, of Hallsburg; five grandsons, Kollin, Korey and Kristopher Thomas Kahler, and Jeremy and Grant Thomas Goebel; and granddaughter, Courtney Miller Percivill. The grandchildren will be the pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Harrison Senior Center, Meals on Wheels or the American Cancer Association.
