Gertrude Sullins Baier December 25, 1919 - June 2, 2008 Gertrude Baier, 88, of Waco passed away Monday, June 2, 2008 at St. Catherine's Center. A memorial service will be held at Central Christian Church on Wednesday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Richard Roland officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service. Gertrude was born December 25, 1919, in Streetman, Texas, the youngest of nine children born to John M. and Pearl Norris Holt. After the death of her father, the family moved to Waco where she attended Waco schools and graduated from Waco High School. She was married to William A. Sullins for 38 years. He died March 31, 1985. Gertrude was a long-time employee of the Amicable Life Insurance Company, which later became American-Amicable Life. She worked as an Executive Secretary for four presidents and as an Assistant Secretary of the company. She was appointed to the Board of Directors for American-Amicable Life prior to her retirement. She was the first female ever to be elected to the Board of Directors of the company. She retired after 47 years of service. On November 26, 1988, she married Marion M. "Butch" Baier. Gertrude was an active member of Central Christian Church, where she participated in the women's organization and was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and five brothers. Left to treasure her memory are her loving family and numerous friends.
