Gladys Holder September 2, 1914 –January 28, 2006 Gladys Chandler Holder passed away January 28, 2006 at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 31 at the First Baptist Church of Gholson with the Rev. Brad Moore officiating. Burial will follow at the Gholson Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 30 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Gladys was born on September 2, 1914, the middle of nine children, to William A. and Sudie Jane Rogers Chandler. She grew up in China Spring, graduated from Waco High School and attended the University of Texas. She married George Buford Holder on April 3, 1937 and lived in Gholson until moving to Crestview Manor. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Gholson and served for over 25 years as the church clerk. She retired from Fab Knit Manufacturing. She was preceded in death by her husband, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and great-granddaughter, Kara Ann Simons. She is survived by her daughters, Alta Faye Niemeyer of Streetman, Janell Peacock and husband, Melvin of Hillsboro, and Vivian Gafford of Gholson; sister, Florence Hill of Grandview; grandchildren, Cheryl Burris and husband, T.J., Kerry Simons and husband, Robby, Rex Niemeyer and wife, Tammy, Brian Young and wife, Teresa, Chris Young and wife, Amy, Jerold Boo Gafford and Laura Ann Gafford; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Crestview Manor Nursing Home for the wonderful love and care given our mother, to Hillcrest Hospice, and to Mrs. Sybil Jensen, her roommate at Crestview. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Gholson Food Pantry.
