Gladys was born December 26, 1921 in Golinda, Texas, the youngest child of William Wesley Betz and Beulah Bea Baxley Betz. She grew up and attended school in the Downsville, Golinda, Rosenthal, Lorena and Hewitt area and attended Waco High School. Gladys married Lloyd Dwight Hall, Sr. August 11, 1945. Gladys and Lloyd celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on August 11, 1995, and at the time of Lloyd's death, they had been married 50 years and eight months. Gladys was the oldest living member of Downsville Baptist Church where she had been a member for 82 years and she became the only living member of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and caregiver to her aunts, uncles and sisters. She was one of the few in her family who learned to drive therefore she became the one to drive any relative to doctor's appointments or to run errands. Even when Gladys was in her mid- eighties, she helped provide care for her daughter-in-law, Carole. Gladys was shy and quiet. She always thought of herself as Lloyd's wife and as Lloyd and Sandra' mother and her jobs were to support them. Gladys loved being a wife and homemaker, mother, grandmother and especially loved being a great-grandmother. Gladys was blessed that she never had to work outside of the home which made it possible for her to help and spend time with relatived and friends. It also gave her time to make phone calls to the sick in the church and to those who could not attend church any more, and check up on them regularly. She continued to do this until the last few weeks of her life. In addition to helping to care for her parents and sisters, she was caregiver to many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She would help by taking them to doctor's appointments, grocery shopping and just sitting with them since they were unable to get out. Even in her late 80's Gladys helped to care for her daughter-in-law, who was fighting cancer until Gladys fell and broke her hip. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; daughter, Patricia Ann Hall; brother, Bill Betz; sisters, Edna Bea Betz Saffle, Frances Betz Rose, Mildred Betz Souer; and daughter-in-law, Carole Marie Porter Hall.
