Gladys O'Brien

Gladys Durham O'Brien December 27, 1915 December 13, 2008 Gladys Durham O'Brien of Waco passed away Saturday, December 13, 2008. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20, at Oakwood Cemetery. Gladys was born December 27, 1915, to Homer C. and Lula E. Durham. She graduated from Waco High School, where she met the love of her life, Dennis H. O'Brien. She and Dennis were married March 8, 1937, and lived in Waco all their lives except when Dennis was in the Navy during World War II. Their only child, Dr. Dennis Harold O'Brien, was a professor of French History at West Virginia University. For several years prior to his death in 1993, he took Gladys and Dennis to Europe each summer. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Homer Sam Durham; and her sister, Juanita Treadwell. She is survived by her husband, Dennis, who expresses special thanks to Gladys' godchildren, Horace and Joe Ann Quigley; caregivers, Robert Davis, Bobbie Wells, Orva McCoy, Janittra Gunn, Barbara James, Celestine Black; and god grandchildren, Cynthia Green, Roy Jackson, Jr., and Horace Lee Quigley, Jr. Gladys is also survived by cousin, Walter Hill, and longtime friend, Glen.
