Gladys Todar

Gladys Josephine Todar died on March 5, 2004, at her home in Whitney, Texas. She was 91 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at St. Louis Catholic Church with The Rev. Msgr. Mark Deering officiating. Burial will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm, Monday, March 8 at the funeral home with Rev. David Liebham officiating. Gladys Josephine Loy was born January 11, 1913, in Berkeley, California. She graduated from Berkeley High School in 1931, after which she attended the University of California. She married Tell John Todar in 1937, also in California, and remained his loving spouse until his death in 1973. She lived in Waco, Texas from 1950 until 1964, where she is best remembered as a mother, and professionally as a buyer for fashion retail in local department stores of their day. She and Tell and family returned to California in 1964, where she continued to raise her family and to work as a fashion coordinator until her retirement in 1984. In 1999, she returned to Texas to reside on the lake at Whitney near her daughter. She is preceded in death by her son, Gary Kent Todar, and her husband, Tell John Todar. She is survived by her children, Kenneth Todar of Madison, Wisconsin, Francine Todar-Peters of Whitney, Texas and Roger Todar of Durango, Colorado; one dear nephew, Barry Branch Todar of Waco, Texas; four grandchildren, Denise Reed of Wylie, Texas, Christopher Nutt of Whitney, Texas, Anthony Todar of Durango, Colorado and Robert Todar of Asheville, North Carolina; sister Frances Soderberg of Portland, Oregon and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by beloved members of her extended family, including Bill Peters, Carla Todar, Diane Todar, Kathleen Todar and Annette Nutt, who mourn her passing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Heart, PO Box 2081, Whitney, Texas 76692, who assisted the family by providing loving care the past 16 months.
