Gloria Lucille Gillespie

GILLESPIE, GLORIA Gloria Lucille Gillespie, age 80, passed away on March 28, 2003 in Houston, Texas. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Barry Camp officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Born in Waco, Texas on May 19, 1922, Gloria lived most of her life in Houston and was a Christian. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942–1945, including New Orleans, LA, Norman, OK, and Hawaii. She enlisted as Apprentice Seaman on December 14, 1942 and received an Honorable Discharge as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate, Second Class, on November 9, 1945. She became employed in 1948 by R.E. Smith Interests, Inc., and retired in 1979 as Accounting Secretary to R. E. Bob Smith. Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Bennie Lucille Gillespie and her sister, Mary L. Harris. She is survived by her niece, Patricia L. Harris; nephews, Mark H. Harris and W.J. Jacobs; cousin, Barbara H. Brown; three grand nieces, Stephany Mena, Stacy Hopkins and Mandy Parrish; three great nieces; three great nephews and numerous other cousins and friends who will dearly miss her. Pallbearers will be W.J. Jacobs, Duane Mena, Eddie Hopkins, Jason Parrish, Ron Shanks and Marcus Shanks. Memorials contributions may be made to the individual’s charity of choice.
