Gloria Schwarting Broadway April 2, 1923 March 17, 2008 Gloria Broadway, 84, of Waco, passed away March 17, 2008, in a local hospital. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, at Holy Cross Cemetery, with Father Patrick Adejoh, chaplain at Providence Health Center, officiating. She will be in state Tuesday at 12 Noon. Gloria was born April 2, 1923, in Waco to Edmond and Mary Maude Schwarting. She attended Waco High School where she was a cheerleader, graduating in 1941. She attended Baylor University while working at Texas Power and Light Company. On November 11, 1944, she married John L. Broadway, Jr., at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in Waco. They were happily married for over 25 years before his death September 5, 1970. John and Gloria were members of St. Louis Catholic Church. During her early married years, Gloria was a fulltime homemaker and took an active role in the lives of her three children, including school, Blue Birds, Scouts, Little League and other activities. Later she worked many years as a trained nurse for Dr. Howard Dudgeon until her retirement. During the last few years, Gloria brightened the lives of staff and residents at The Regis and then St. Catherine's with her captivating smile and the wave of her finger. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and brothers, Ed, Joe and Bill Schwarting. She is survived by one son, John Broadway III and wife, Ann, of Mineola; two daughters, Carol Leitzell and husband, Larry, of Waco; and Mary Broadway and husband, Earl, of Waco; and brother, Dr. Bland Schwarting of San Antonio. She leaves behind five devoted grandchildren, John Broadway IV and wife, Melissa, of Allen; Clyde Wooten of Portland, Oregon; Melinda Wooten of West Hartford, Connecticut; Jill Broadway Ham and husband, Justin, of Midland; and Ellen Broadway of Austin; along with one great granddaughter, Alexandra Broadway of Allen, and happily anticipated two more great-grandchildren in the spring and fall.
