Modrel Goodson McKee November 26, 1927 - May 29, 2013 Modrel Goodson McKee of Waco passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, his final "station identification". Services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Jack Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Goodson McKee was born in Waco November 26, 1927, to Willie and Modrel McKee. He graduated from Waco High School in 1946 and attended Baylor University. Goodson married the love of his life, Pat, in 1950 and together they shared nearly 63 years of marriage. In 1943, while attending Waco High School, Goodson began his life-long affair with radio when he signed on with radio station W-A-C-O. Following brief stints at stations in Pampa, Lampasas, and Hillsboro, Goodson returned to W-A-C-O to work with Mary Holiday, Bob Walker and other Waco talent. He continued broadcasting over the airwaves until 1996. As an announcer, Goodson was known as the Morning Mayor of Waco. Goodson and his wife Pat owned and operated Goodson McKee Recording Studio and produced weekly radio programs for the Texas Farm Bureau, the Methodist Home, and Pigskin Roundup. While producing Pigskin Roundup, Goodson and his family travelled from city to city catching Southwest Conference football games, often seeing several games in one day. During his career, he served as president of the Texas Associated Press and many other offices in the Texas Broadcaster's Association. He is survived by his wife, Pat; and their children, Debbie Gorence and partner, Sherry Hurwitz, and Mark McKee and wife, Terri. His loved extended to his grandchildren, Erin and Amanda Gorence, Allyson McNeil and husband, James, and Colt McKee and wife, Katie; and his great-grandchildren, Jay and Maggie McNeil. He is also survived by his cousin, Larry Davis; and niece, Cathy McMahen. Memorial contributions may be made to Bosqueville United Methodist Church or the Methodist Children's Home.
