It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Greg, a beloved soul whose presence illuminated the lives of many. Greg passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering compassion.
Join us for a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Oakwood Cemetery, Section R in Waco, Texas.
Born on January 28, 1965, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Greg's journey led him to Waco, Texas, where he spent the majority of his life.
Greg spent his career in the insurance industry for over 25 years. He most enjoyed his colleagues who were like family and his many clients he called friends. In addition to his professional life, Greg was a staple of the Waco baseball community and a dedicated coach for 26 years, he served as a father figure for many both on and off the field. It was with boundless joy that he coached his little brother and nephew, instilling in them not just the game's skills but also the values of camaraderie and perseverance. He found immense pride in watching his nephews excel on the high school football field, their achievements a testament to Greg's unwavering support and encouragement. Some might also be surprised that Greg was one of the most passionate fans of contemporary dance, always finding a way to watch his niece's competitions.
Greg's love of the Dallas Cowboys was fierce, a loyal fan through thick and thin, sharing in the Cowboys' victories and defeats with equal passion. His quick wit, infectious humor, and genuine kindness made him a cherished friend and confidant to many. A natural conversationalist, Greg was known for his ability to put others at ease and uplift their spirits with his encouraging words and warm demeanor.
As we mourn the loss of a son, brother, uncle, treasured friend, mentor, and supporter, may we find solace in the memories of Greg's laughter, kindness, and unwavering positivity. Though he may no longer walk beside us, we find comfort in knowing that he now rests in eternal peace, perhaps sharing a toast with Hal over a gin and tonic, in a place where love and laughter know no bounds.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents, Vard and Elizabeth Cockrell, Daniel Mack and Nannie Swain and Mildred Phillips; father Dan Swain; and brother-in-law Hal Whitaker.
