Guy Mitchell Collins

Collins, Guy M. Guy Mitchell Collins, 91, passed away Monday, April 25, 2005 at a local nursing home. Services will be Thursday, April 28 at 11:30 AM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Pamela Dykehouse officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, April 27 from 5 to 7 PM in the Garden Room. Mr. Collins was born January 9, 1914 in Pilot Point, Texas to Dolph and Lillie Stanfield Collins. He attended elementary school in Perry, Texas and graduated from Waco High School in 1932. He married his high school sweetheart, Ida Mae Autrey in 1936, while working for Southwestern Drug as a salesman. He enlisted in the service of his country in World War II. Guy served in the Marine Corps as a Pharmacist’s Mate in the South Pacific Theatre with the 4th Marine Division. He participated in four invasions in both the Marshall Islands and the Marianas. After his discharge, he went back to work for Southwestern Drug, until his retirement in 1989. Guy was a life long member of Herring Avenue United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He truly loved his family and his greatest pleasure came from time he spent with them on vacations to Colorado and Yellowstone National Park. Guy was extremely proud of his wife, his children and his grandchildren and always thought they were the very best. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his sister, Inez Collins Miller. He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae Collins; a daughter, Virginia Collins Farley & husband John Michael of Arlington; a son, Mick Collins & wife Cathy of Waco; four grandchildren, Alana Farley, Sarah Collins, Austin Farley and Dan Collins.
