October 10, 1921 — November 18, 2004

MELTON, GUY R. Our Lord and Savior welcomed Guy R. Melton home on Thursday, November 18, 2004. Services will be at 11am Monday, November 22 at Calvary Baptist Church of Waco with the Rev. Julie Pennington-Russell, the Rev. Nathan Porter, the Rev. Jonathan Grant, and the Rev. Ken James officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Mills Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 4-6pm Sunday, November 21 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. A lifelong resident of Waco, Mr. Melton was born October 10, 1921 to Guy Rogers, Sr. and Vera Cook Melton. He was a graduate of Waco High, class of 1939. He attended radio school for the Army Air Corps and was stationed in Guam during WWII. He met and married Dorothy Nell Speegle August 15, 1943. To that union four children were born. After his military service he worked for the United States Post Office as a letter carrier until his retirement. He was a loyal and active member of Calvary Baptist Church of Waco. He volunteered with Meals On Wheels and received great enjoyment by keeping up the church flower beds. He dearly loved his Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy and sister, Joyce Callendar. Survivors include daughters, Donna Grimes and husband, Jerry of The Villages, Florida, Mary Melton of Hewitt, and Guyanne Melton of Waco; son, Michael Melton and wife, Jean of Waco; grandchildren, Michelle Schroeder and husband, Craig of Waco, Todd Phillips of Caldwell, Robyn Will of Hewitt, Kyle Fitzhugh and wife, Jami of Cameron, Rebecca Fitzhugh of Hewitt, Remy Fitzhugh of Hewitt, Tracee Henderson and husband, Anthony of Waco, and Jeffrey Barrett Neel of Dallas; and great grandchildren, Caden, Carter, and Brandt Henderson all of Waco and Skylar Fitzhugh of Cameron; sister, Mary McCown of Chesterfield, Missouri; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to thank the eighth floor staff of Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and Brazos Kidney Disease Center employees involved with his care. Special thanks also to Dr. Okani. Thank you to our dad’s friends for visits, cards and prayers. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Waco, Benevolence Fund, American Cancer Society or National Kidney Foundation.
