BROCKETT, VERNON ROSSER Mrs. Fred H. Vernon Brockett, age 94, of Waco passed away after a long illness on July 25, 2002 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 2:00PM Monday, July 29, 2002 at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Austin Ave., Waco with Rev. Jimmy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 3:00-5:00PM Sunday, July 28 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Brockett, a loved and devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, was born on August 25, 1907 in Anson, Texas to Cleo Grace Lackey Rosser and Guy Vernon Rosser. Vernon was educated in the Anson public schools, attended McMurry University in Abilene and in 1929 graduated from Texas Women’s University in Denton. She taught school in Albany and Anson, Texas. Vernon married Fred Haile Brockett on May 17, 1931. He preceded her in death in 1983. Vernon and Fred moved to Waco in 1973. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waco, Waco Art Center, Waco Historical Society, Women’s Symphony Association, and Ridgewood Country Club. Survivors include sons, George Edward Brockett and wife, Suzanne of McGregor and Charles Rosser Brockett of San Pedro, California; grandchildren, James Elliott Brockett of Port Orange, Florida, John Edward Brockett of Indianapolis, Indiana, Elizabeth Ann Brockett Shurtz of Southlake, Jennifer Louise Brockett McCarty of Dallas, Catherine Lynn Brockett Currier of Moreno Valley, California and William DeBard Brockett of Reno, Nevada; ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; brother, Jerry Rosser of Abilene and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Charles Rosser Brockett, James Elliott Brockett, John Edward Brockett, Guy Rosser, Phillip Craik, Warren Craik, and Darren McCarty. Honorary pallbearers are Charles A. Schoultz, M.D., Walter H. Hill, Julian W. Oates, John M. Hawes, J. Harry Jeans, and Joel R. Brown. The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to Lois Ware deceased, Maria DeLeon, Socorro Arias, Cecilia De Guerreros, Martha Luna, Maria Perez and others for all the loving care they have given Mrs. Brockett over the years.
