December 20, 1941 — December 26, 2005

H. GENE EVANS December 20, 1941-December 26, 2005 H. Gene Evans, of Waco, passed away Monday, December 26, 2005 at the age of 64. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28th, at the DaySpring Baptist Church in Waco with Dr. Burt Burleson and Dr. Michael Massar officiating. Gene was born on December 20, 1941, to the late Joe B. and Nina Vaughn Evans of Gruver, Texas. He attended Baylor University from 1960 to 1964 where he was graduated with a B.A. in Business. Gene was a master entrepreneur who had a gift for creative business ventures, being a real estate broker for over 35 years. However, his calling was invested in the Democratic Party. For over 40 years Gene was involved in seeking to make community better. Being a committed Christian, Gene had a depth of compassion and empathy for the poor and oppressed, which became his own personal mission statement in politics and in life. Gene’s sense of calling led him to be an active churchman in many Baptist churches, and, most recently, he had great joy in the building and growth of the DaySpring Baptist Church. Gene was an avid baseball fan, following both the Baylor Bears and the New York Yankees. In 1969 Gene met Cindy Mays and they were married on January 25, 1970. Gene, known affectionately to his family as “Boudleaux,” was a wonderful father and grandfather to son John Calk Evans of Waco, son Murray Allen Evans and wife Kim of Waco, daughter Emily Benoit and husband Dwayne of Waco and his sons, Dwayne and Terrel Stewart, daughter Laura Evans of Dallas, and granddaughters Regan, Madeline, and Lauren Evans of Waco, as well as being a beloved son-in-law to Dr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Mays and brother to Jerry Evans and Bill Evans, of Amarillo, and Gerald Evans of Killeen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mildred and brother Don. Gene was loved by his family and extended family, and will be missed by all. Memorials may be designated to the DaySpring Baptist Church Building Fund. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our “Memorial Guestbook” at www.wilkirsonhatchbailey.com
