Hannah Hirsch October 26, 1935 – September 14, 2006 Hannah Hirsch, whose warmth, enthusiasm, and love for family and friends filled her entire life, died September 14, 2006 in a traffic accident while on a tour in London, England. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 20 at Rodef Sholom Cemetery. Hannah was a life-long member of the Waco community. She was born in Waco on October 26, 1935, to Bessie Bauer Gurwitz and Nathan Gurwitz. Her father died when she was 9 years old, and her mother was remarried to Henry Novy. She graduated from Waco High School, and attended classes at Baylor. She was married to Kurt Hirsch from 1954 until his death in 1999. Hannah touched many lives as a docent at the Waco Art Center, as a Sunday School teacher at Temple Rodef Shalom, and as an officer for the Jewish Federation and Hadassah. She is survived by her sister, Esther Strobel of Engelwood, New Jersey; her brother, Steven Novy and wife, Anna of Colorado Springs; her daughter, Melissa Hirsch of Baltimore; her son, Norman Hirsch and his wife, Ann Courter, and three grandchildren, David, Michael, and Emily Hirsch, of Oak Park, Illinois; her brother-in-law, Bernd Hirsch and his wife Gwen and uncle, Jake Bauer and wife Simone all of Waco; as well as five nephews, two nieces, and many cousins.
