Eugenia Ayres October 26, 1917 - October 16, 2007 Eugenia Allen Ayres, long-time resident of Waco, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, in Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugar Land, TX. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at Central Presbyterian Church in Waco with Dr. Rebecca Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Eugenia was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother and community volunteer. She was born to Willie Etta and William Eugene Allen on Oct. 26, 1917, in Waco. She filled her life with her family and community service. Eugenia served her church as a Sunday school teacher for 38 years, president of the Central Presbyterian Berean Class, a trustree, an elder, an usher, a member of numerous committees including those for the pastor search, evangelism, visions, and administrative affairs and held a variety of offices in Presbyterian Women. Eugenia was president of the North Waco Parent-Teacher’s Association PTA, treasurer for the Waco City Council PTA, treasurer for the North Junior High School PTA and vice president of the Waco High School PTA. She was honored with a lifetime membership in the national PTA. She also was involved in the Waco Garden Study Club and served as its president. Prior to her marriage she worked for the Social Security Administration. Later she served as a clerk at the Waco ISD Administration Offices, attendance clerk at North Junior High School and attendance secretary at Richfield High School. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband Alva. Eugenia is survived by two daughters, Alva Jean Winston and husband, Bill of Sugar Land; and Debbie Palmer and husband, Eric of San Angelo; and by two grandchildren, Erica Ashmore and husband, Lucas of Lubbock; and Tasha Palmer of San Angelo. The family requests memorials be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 9191 Woodway Drive or to the Presbyterian Children’s Home and Services, 300 Brookside Road, Waxahachie, TX.
