WOOTEN, CECIL Harold Cecil Wooten, 73 of Waco passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at a local hospital. Services will be at 11:30am Friday, July 16 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Randy Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8pm Thursday, July 15 at the funeral home. Mr. Wooten was born July 25, 1930 in Waco to George A-May and Mendina Wooten. He was a most faithful Christian man, who loved the Lord, and his church. Mr. Wooten joined the Army while still a teenager, and served proudly in the Korean War, ending his Army service as a sergeant. After being very honorably discharged and coming home to Waco in 1951, Cecil married the former Billie Jean McCracken in 1952. They had two sons, Ronald Allen, born in 1953, and Cecil Wayne, born in 1956. Mr. Wooten was a very well-known and respected home builder and painter, after working for several years at the post office. He was a devoted and diligent activist for veteran’s rights and causes. He became commander of the V.F.W. post on Memorial Drive. He continued to be a very vocal spokesman for veterans until a short time ago, when his physical condition started to deteriorate. Mr. Wooten was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Geneva DeLamar, and one brother, Robert Wooten. He is survived by sons, Ronald Allen and Cecil Wayne; sister, Juanita Wilkins and her devoted husband, George; brothers, Doil and James Wooten, sisters-in-law, Ann, June and Fern. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a faithful, devoted friend, Betty Tenpenny and other dear friends from Harrison Center Emmanuel Baptist Church, V.F.W and everywhere he has ever been. Pallbearers will be men from Cecil’s Sunday School Class at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Waco. Honorary pallbearers are members of his post of V.F.W.
