Harold McCain, 94, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Providence Village. Services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, August 29, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home with Pastors Kip Osborne and Jimmy Dorrell co-officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Harold was born in Vaughn, Texas, in 1927. He grew up in Aquilla, Texas, where he attended school until the eighth grade. He was married to Peggye McCain on August 19, 1950. He worked for and retired from the Lone Star Gas Company after 35 years. He also owned and ran the Heart of Texas Speedway for 25 years. He had a love for travel with his wife and once retired, they spent their summers taking their granddaughters across the US in their RV. He has been a member of Western Heights Baptist Church since 1976. He spent his later years volunteering with his wife for Meals on Wheels and the Harrison Center. Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Peggye McCain (d. December 16, 2019); and his son, Keith McCain (d. August 16, 1972). Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Karen Kemp and husband, Kenneth of Waco; granddaughters, Kourtney Suzette Glaser and husband, Jay, of Fort Worth and Krystal Roxanne Lantz and husband, Josh, of Colleyville; great-grandchildren, Gracelyn and Samantha Glaser and Liam, Finley, and Bennett Lantz; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be James Klein, John Etter, Bob Plsek, George Green, Charles Derrick, Jerry Rogers, Jay Glaser, Josh Lantz. Honorary pallbearers will be the Coffee Drinkers' Club members and his Heart of Texas Speedway family, friends, and fans. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 501 West Waco Dr., Waco, TX 76707, or the Harrison Senior Center, 1718 N. 42nd St. Waco, TX 76710. The family would like to express their special appreciation to the staff at Providence Village and Hospice on the third floor.
