Harold T. Schmedthorst, 86, also known as PoPs, of Robinson, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023.
The funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, in Waco, with Pastor Peter Kolb officiating, burial followed at Waco Memorial Park. There was a visitation from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.
Harold was born October 8, 1936, in Falls County, Texas, to Fritz and Hattie Schmedthorst. He was baptized November 8, 1936, by Reverend E.A. Heckmann and confirmed April 2, 1950, by Reverend P. Braner. Harold attended schools at Trinity Lutheran, Otto, and Mart High School. He married Ilene Boeche July 28, 1962, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riesel, officiated by Reverend Robert Kass. They were blessed with two daughters, Kim, and Kellie.
Harold served in the United States Army from February 1957 until January 1959, and then in the Army Reserves from 1961 until 1963. He was employed with Ideal Woodwork for 31 years and Wells Cargo Trailers for 11 years. After Harold’s retirement, he helped his son-in-law, Ronnie, with Construction.
He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church of Waco, where he served as usher for many years. Harold enjoyed hunting, gardening, woodworking, fishing with the “gang” and spending time with his family. In his later years he liked hanging out with his son-in-law, Ronnie, and riding on the tractor. He was especially proud of his twin great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Ilene; his parents, Fritz and Hattie Schmedthorst; and his brothers, Kenneth and Westley.
Harold is survived by his daughters, Kim Crunk and husband Ronnie of Robinson, Kellie Kellum, and husband Keith of Valley Mills; grandchildren, Kayla Mitchell, and husband, William of Robinson, Kolton Kellum of Waco; two great-grandchildren, Carson, and Frank Mitchell of Robinson; his sister, Vera Sielaff of Riesel; Harding Schmedthorst, of Mart; Raymond Schmedthorst and his wife, Norma, of Robinson; as well as many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers include Daniel Schmedthorst, Denis Schmedthorst, Craig Schmedthorst, Hunter Sterling, Rob Moore and Mark Hrabal. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy La Fountain, Kolton Kellum, and Frank and Carson Mitchell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or to the charity of your choice.
