Harold Winston Canady August 5, 1923 - April 24, 2008 Harold Winston Canady of Waco passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Lakeshore Village Senior Care. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 28, at the Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Chapel with Bro. Carroll Hambrick officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Little River Church and Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27, at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey. Harold was born August 5, 1923, in Cameron, Texas, to William Ivy and Ethel Inez Bell Canady. He graduated from Rosebud High School in 1941 and went directly into the Navy, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He attended Kilgore Jr. College and was a gifted poet. He worked at Hercules in McGregor, TX, retiring in 1986. Harold has been a lifelong Baptist and a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Waco for 31 years. He especially enjoyed golfing and hanging out with his buddies. He loved his sports including the Baylor Bears, Texas Rangers, Tiger Woods and the Dallas Cowboys. Harold enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond and John Canady; and sisters, Mildred Shafer and Margie Kruger. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Virginia Sikes Canady; daughters, Linda Canady Miles; Wanda Lynn Canady Shaver and Billy Joe, of Waco; son, Sonny and wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Jeff A. Miles, Kirk W. Miles, Keith A. Dowdy, David B. Dowdy, James W. Dykes, Jr., Jennifer Lynn Dykes Abel, Melissa JoAnn Dykes Peterson, Kindle Canady Wiesenburger, Lindsey Canady, Dylan Canady, Georgia Johnson, and Jason Cobb, and 16 great grandchildren; brother, William F. Canady; and sister, Mary Gough. Members of the family will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans of WWII or to Beverly Hills Baptist Church.
