Harriet Jean Berglund Spinn February 6, 1938 August 21, 2008 Harriet Spinn passed away Thursday August 21, 2008 in Waco, Texas. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday August 30, at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church in Waco with Rev. Ben Younger and Chris Mesa officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28 in Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room, 6101 Bosque. Harriet was born on February 6, 1938, to Rev. John and Dorothy Berglund in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1956. In 1958, while attending Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX, she met and married Richard Charles Spinn Jr., from Brenham, TX. Harriet received a B. A. in chemistry from Southern Methodist University. Harriet and Dick Spinn moved to Waco in 1968 where Harriet began teaching chemistry at Richfield High School. Harriet retired from teaching in 2000. After retirement, Harriet remained active in the Waco Symphony Women's Council, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Delta Kappa and Meals on Wheels. She was a committee member and volunteer for the Historic Waco Foundation at the McCulloch House Museum and a long time member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church. Harriet loved traveling and playing bridge. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Julia Berglund Young. She is survived by her brother, Dr. John F. Berglund of Richmond, VA; her son, Rick Spinn and wife, Hazel, of Waco; her daughters, Julie Spinn and husband, Rich Petocz and Jeanne Kendrick and husband, Chesley Kendrick, of Houston; grandchildren, Mandy and Melissa Spinn, Claire and Coleman Kendrick.
