Harris Bryant Allen, Jr. February 3, 1935 January 2, 2014 Harris Bryant Allen, Jr. passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 6, at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Aaron M. G. Zimmerman presiding. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, January 5, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Harris was born February 3, 1935 in Cisco, Texas, the son of the former Mary Florine Elkins and Harris B. Allen, Sr. Harris attended Waco public schools and graduated from Waco High School in 1953, and from the University of North Texas in 1957. He was a member of Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. He was employed by International Harvester Co. in the truck division and White Motor Company, in Dallas. In Waco, he became sales manager for the new Duncan Truck Sales. In 1975, Harris established the Mack Truck dealership, later adding the Isuzu and medium-duty GMC lines. Harris loved the truck business and his association with his employees and many customers through the years. During his career, he served on several national and international boards associated with the truck business. He was a past member of Rotary International and other civic organizations. Harris was a member of First United Methodist Church and St. Alban's Episcopal Church. Hunting at the deer lease with a group of family friends was the source of much enjoyment, as well as the hours spent on Lake Waco. He was a longtime member of Ridgewood Country Club. He loved a good book, particularly about World War II. He was an avid traveler and always looked forward to planning the next trip. Surviving Harris are: his wife, Margie; his daughter Claire Moore and husband Carey and granddaughter, Meredith; daughters Rose Grossenbacher and Gay King; grandchildren Marjorie Parker and husband Silas, Edgar King and wife Leighton, Russell Loper, Jr., and Winifred Nelson; great-grandchildren August Parker and Marc Edgar King III. Pallbearers will be Douglas Bergen, Harlan Bergen, Frank Harknett, Marc Edgar King, Russell Loper, Carey L. Moore, Silas Parker, and William H. Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are Mercer Buchanan, Dick Clark, Jack Gillette, Floyd Jenson, Edgar Keeling, Julian Oates, William R. Pakis, Ross Sams, Cleveland Witt, and Donald Young.
