Harvey Hoffman, beloved husband, father, and friend died on Thursday, June 30, 2016. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 6, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, officiated by Rev. Lynn Willhite. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco. Harvey was born in Waco, Texas, on February 20, 1926, to Albert and Anna Kuehne Hoffman. At age 12 he was confirmed as a follower of Christ in the Evangelical and Reformed Church. He attended Waco schools and graduated from Waco High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Marvin H. McIntyre from 1944-1946 as Storekeeper, Second Class. He was honorably discharged after having served in the Pacific theater, including the initial invasion of Okinawa on Easter morning 1945. In 2010, Harvey was an honored guest upon the Honor Flight to view the WWII monument in Washington D.C. Upon his return from military service, Harvey continued his education at Baylor University. He married Eleanor Mount on March 6, 1947, at Austin Avenue Methodist Church. He was employed by Waco Savings and Loan, and retired as Vice President of Guaranty Bank, Waco Branch. After his retirement from the business world, he enjoyed employment with Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. He took great joy in serving others, including leadership positions at Austin Ave. UMC, Bosqueville UMC, the Emmaus Community, Kairos Prison Ministry, Glen Lake Methodist Camp as a counselor to school-age campers, youth mission trips with Bosqueville UMC, many hours as a volunteer at the Providence Hospital ER, and the H.O.T. Lions Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and served as Past Master of Lockwood Masonic Lodge, and was also a member of Scottish Rite. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Orville Hoffman. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Mount Hoffman; daughter, Peggy Brown and husband, David, of Lubbock and son, Paul and wife, Dina, of Waco; grandchildren, Matthew Stevens and wife, Megan, Skylar Stevens, Emily Schroeder and husband, Cody, Andy Hoffman; and three great grandchildren, Riley, Piper and Carter Stevens.
