Hattie Pistole Robinson

September 12, 1916 — February 24, 2015

Hattie Pistole Robinson September 12, 1916 - February 24, 2015 Hattie Robinson of Waco passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Services will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Hattie Robinson was born in Jewett, Texas, and educated in the county schools. In 1934, she married Odis Robinson and later moved to Waco to spend many years as a housekeeper. She raised two children, Nora Mae Robinson and William Powell Robinson, largely as a working single mother. Both of these adult children are deceased, as is her grandson, Vince Battles. Survivors are her great grandchildren, Joshua C. Battles 20 and Kaylah M. Battles 17 of Los Angeles, California. Hattie worked for many families in Waco. She was hired by Charles and Maida Flood to care for their little boy, Charles Chuck and baby girl, Catherine Cathy. She worked for the family until after the children were grown. Chuck and Catherine both consider --and sometimes claim--Hattie to be their mother. She was hugely influential in their lives and in the lives of many other children in her care. Later, Hattie became a Custodian Foreman at Texas State Technical Institute TSTI, now TSTC. She retired after ten years and continued her life in Lacy Lakeview, happy to be active, opinionated, and vocal in her community and in the Carver Park Baptist Church. She was an honorary member of the A. J. Moore High School All School Reunion, joining her daughter Nora Mae's classmates who knew and loved her. Glaucoma took her eyesight, but she was healthy and active until a very old age. She passed peacefully and painlessly to rejoin all those she had lost. Hattie's last years were spent in Ridgecrest Assisted Living and, recently, Ridgecrest Nursing Home. Those of us who loved her and love her still are grateful for the care, kindness and friendships given to her there. We are also grateful beyond words for Tommy Bowman, who watched over her for those of us who could not, laughed with her, prayed with her, and brought her special snacks on his weekly visits. He was unyielding support in her last years. Many thanks also to Lilla Mae Putton, a cousin, for the constant love and support she gave to Hattie. The Lord bless you and keep you, Hattie; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious unto you.... And give you peace.
