Mrs. Hobbs was born October 11, 1912 in Marlin, Texas. Her husband, Carey, preceded her in death in 1982 after 53 years of marriage. During her lifetime she lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, Marlin, Robinson, Abilene, Houston, McGregor, Fort Worth, Groesbeck, Waco, Albuquerque, and Carlsbad. In her earlier years Granny was a talented seamstress and a faithful Sunday School teacher, but in her later years, her life revolved around her family and friends. She was a living example of Proverbs 16:31 “Gray hair is a crown of splendor”. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Groesbeck. R. of Waco, Andy Hobbs and wife Denise of Fort Worth, Cindy Janecka and husband Darrell of Waco, Taylor Hobbs and wife, Rachel of Waco, Wil Hobbs and wife, Wendy of Visalia, California, Jay Hobbs and wife, Lorie of Tulare, California; great grandchildren, Christa Hobbs, Levi Hobbs, Brandon Baccus, Kyle Baccus, Baylee Baccus, Regan Baccus, Carey Janecka, Colby Janecka, Courtney Janecka, Haden Hobbs, Lauren Hobbs, Clark Hobbs, and Ethan Hobbs; sisters-in-law, Sula Simons of Bryan, Maxine Hobbs of Waco, Ida Mae Hobbs of Albuquerque; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Hobbs and wife, Bettye of Houston and Charlie Hobbs and wife, Hazel of Robinson; and hosts of beloved nieces and nephews from everywhere. The family wishes to thank her caretakers, Maria Roman, Evelyn Dickerson, Jeri Mazza, Donna Walker, and Marcia Beaver. Without their help it would not have been possible to keep Granny at home with the family until she went to be with the Lord. Also, a special word of gratitude to Marcy Wilborn, Granny’s faithful hairdresser, owner of La Bella Visage. Granny’s life was dedicated to encouraging young people and she wanted everyone she met to call her “Granny”. She was loved and admired for her ability to “reach out and touch” others. Because of her devotion to and belief in young people, if preferred, donations may be made to: The Center for the Study of Addiction and Recovery, Box 41162, Lubbock, TX 79409-1162 at Texas Tech University.
