Helen Browder Lewis

October 18, 1926 — June 29, 2017

Helen Browder Lewis passed away peacefully from the arms of her loving family to the arms of God, on Thursday, June 29, 2017. She was born in San Juan, Texas, to Willine Cravens Cox & Hollen Cox. Helen met her husband, Joseph Hardy Browder, Jr., at the University of Texas. Together they had 5 children…Barbara, Bond, Barrie, Blake, and Bram. Helen was very active in the Waco community and was a great friend to many people. If you knew her, you knew her. Her children describe her as a loving Mother, who was always available to anyone who needed her. Nothing was too big for her to handle and her children were often there to serve beside her. Their love for service to the community was modeled by her, as well as their dad. Anyone would be so blessed to have the number of friends that she has had throughout her life. It is such a testament to her fun-loving, caring, compassionate, and empathetic nature. She loved well and has surely been the recipient of the same kind of love. May the work she did, speak for her. We will all miss her very much. The words below depict the feelings of a strong woman who loved well: I know it is foolish to tell you not to be sad. I know you are and I know that you will miss me. I will not be able to miss you or feel sad because you can’t be sad in the arms of Jesus. God gave us a wonderfully long time to be together, and I am so grateful. Together we have embraced this life He has given us, on earth, with joy and happiness. You have been my children, my supporters and best of all, my close friends. I am so proud of the Christian men and women that you have grown to be. Your wonderful spouses, I have loved just like they are my own. You have given me such loving and gifted grandchildren and great grandchildren. I am so thankful to have been able to watch them grow up. I have loved them all so dearly and enjoyed being a big part of their lives. God has always held me in the palm of his hand and blessed me so. I had a strong Christian mother to raise me and a happy childhood, a career that I loved and many wonderful friends. Some women never have a happy marriage and I have had two. After your Dad was taken from us early, God brought Jamie into my life. Celebrate my life and look forward to the rest of yours. Love God, first, last and always. He will always give you the strength to get you through anything. Love each other. Open yourselves to receive miracles, they happen every day. My fervent prayer is that God will continue to hold you close and use your many talents to glorify His name. How exciting it is to know that part of me will live on in you, your children, and your grandchildren. Be happy, you know that I am. I love you so much. Mom Services will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1. Light lunch and visitation will follow in the Parish Hall. Memorials may be made to: Stilwell Retirement Residence, Mission Waco, Compassion Ministries, Planned Parenthood, or the charity of your choice. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
