Helen Marie Hoffman

October 23, 1921 — August 20, 2009

Helen Hoffman October 23, 1919 - August 20, 2009 Helen Marie Hoffman, 89, ended her battle with Frontal Lobe Dementia on August 20, 2009. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 21, at Agudath Jacob Cemetery. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Gus and Sarah Holste; and moved to Galveston, TX, at a very young age. She grew up in Galveston, but after meeting Abe, who adored her, she married and moved to Waco, TX, the place she called home. She was the bookkeeper of the family business, Hoffman Banana Company, for many years. She loved plays, musicals, being a part of Congregation Agudath Jacob, where she worshipped, and she loved playing cards with her friends on Thursday afternoon. She also became the designated driver for all of her relatives and friends, who were not able to drive. Her great joy was talking about stocks and watching the stock market every day. In her senior years, she enjoyed going to Dallas, TX, to see musicals and plays. She enjoyed giving to any charity that would send her a letter in the mail. In 2006, she moved to Houston, to be closer to her daughters. Her joy came from being surrounded by her loved ones and caregivers, but her roots will always be in Waco, the city that she loved. She was much loved and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abe Hoffman, and her two sisters, Estelle Falgout and Ruth Koltz. She is survived by two loving daughters, Marilyn Hoffman Klein and husband, Denny; and Shelly Hoffman Jacobson and husband, Bruce; her adoring grandchildren and their spouses, Geffrey and Karla Klein, Randy and Lisa Klein, Marci and Roger Gross, Robert and Julie Jacobson, and Ryan Jacobson and his fiance Judith Goldfarb. She also had eight precious great grandchildren, Nicholas, Tatiana and Alexandra Klein, Alyssa, Tanner, and Ava Klein, Jackson Gross, and Emma Jacobson. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Margolis; and her brother, Fred Holste and wife, Celia. Though she could not speak or barely move, her last two years were made happy, comfortable and very safe by the wonderful care she received from her caregivers, Norma, Gladys, Neliza, and Mary Lou. We will be forever grateful to these angels who took such wonderful care of her.
