Helen Witten Cole November 23, 1925 - February 12, 2010 Helen Witten Cole was received into Christ's embrace early Friday, February 12, 2010, at Providence Hospital in Waco. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 15, at Seventh and James Baptist Church with the Dr. Raymond Bailey and Dr. Milton Cunningham officiating. Helen was born November 23, 1925, in Houston, TX, to Susan and Leslie Witten. She grew up in Houston and graduated from San Jacinto High School. She attended and graduated from Baylor University with a B.A. in English, and it was there that she met and married her husband of over 60 years, Dr. James F. Cole, on December 23, 1947. Helen and Jim had one child, Carolyn Cole, now Carolyn Cole Meyer, who resides in Waco. Helen spent 20 plus years in Alexandria, Louisiana, as a wife, mother and public school teacher. She contributed to community life in Alexandria in many ways: early advocate for water safety for children, an avid Red Cross water safety instructor, Sunday school teacher and seamstress. Helen and Jim moved to Waco in 1977, where she became a member and participated at Seventh & James Baptist Church, the Current Event Club of Waco and the Baylor Alumni Association. She was active in alum activities for Kappa Alpha Theta and was a Midway ISD mentor. Her most prized role in life may have been being grandmother "Dee Dee" to her grandchildren, whom she dearly loved and delighted in their many interests. She exemplified her faith in Jesus Christ by teaching them to love Gods Creation, make the most of their talents and providing them unconditional love. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patricia Maxcy; and her beloved granddaughter, Allison Ann Bucy. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. James F. Cole; daughter, Carolyn Meyer and husband, Judge Jim Meyer, of Waco; grandchildren, Cole Bucy and wife, Skye Perryman, of Washington, DC; Jason Bucy of Los Angeles, California; Mike Meyer and wife, Nadine, of Dallas, TX; and Brady Meyer of Dallas; sister-in-law, Frances Kolb of Jackson, TN; and brother-in-law, Bill Maxcy of Houston, TX; and extended family and a host of friends.
