Hestha Louise Wendt Dodd

Hestha Louise Wendt Dodd passed away Monday, December 31, 2007. Services will be graveside Thursday, January 3, 2008, 2 p.m., at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Hestha was born June 29, 1914, in Elgin, Texas, to Alma and Charley Wendt. In 1937 she married Harry Weaver Dodd of Teague, and they made their home in Waco. Hestha became a member of the Austin Avenue United Methodist Church in 1939 and was a member of the Hartsfield Class for the remainder of her life. She was a member of the PTA and other school activities for their three children. Hestha joined the Lake Waco Women’s Golf Association and served in the capacity of president. She was also a member of a bowling team and belonged to the Coterie Study Club. Hestha was very athletic. She played basketball in high school and was an acrobatic tumbler. She was also talented in rollerskating and loved skating at her parents’ traveling roller rink in her youth. As a young woman she placed “first” in horseback riding in Teague. Preceding Hestha in death in 1996 was her husband, Harry. In 1985 her brother, W.C. “Choppy” Wendt deceased and in 1990 her sister, Sadie B. Graham, deceased. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Wayne Dodd, in 1993. Hestha is survived by her three children who adore her, Jerry Wayne of Waco, Thomas Harry “Tommy” and his wife, Vivie Wallis Dodd, of Mansfield; and her daughter, Kathy Dodd Holloway, of Dallas. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Catherine Sampels, of Richardson, and Allison Dubose of Tomball, along with her grandson, Jason Clint Smith of Richardson. Hestha is blessed to have two great granddaughters, Elizabeth Marie Sampels, and Rachael Anita Sampels, both of Richardson.
