THORNE, HOLLIS Hollis Robert Thorne, 93, of Waco, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at his daughter, Gloria’s, residence. Services will be 9:30 am Friday, March 5, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Dr. William M. Lynch officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be 5-7pm Thursday, March 4 at the funeral home. Mr. Thorne was born August 31, 1910 in Leon Junction, Texas to Andy and Carrie Hobdy Thorne. He attended school and grew up in Leon Junction. He married Nadine Brown, his true love, also from Leon Junction June 1, 1940. The couple moved to Waco that same year. He began working for William Cameron and Company in 1940 until his retirement in August, 1975. He joined and became an active member of First Church of the Nazarene in Waco in January, 1946, singing in the choir, ushering, serving as Sunday School superintendent and church board member until ill health curtailed his service. He loved the dogs he had through the years, Skipper being the last, watching baseball on TV, playing “42”, but dominoes was his favorite game, playing his last game on Saturday. Most of all he loved his family and having them all at home for the weekly Sunday noon meal prepared by Nadine. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Edith Whigham and Azalea Stewart, and brothers, Leslie and Elzy Stewart. His is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Nadine of Waco, daughters, Gloria Hill and husband, John of Woodway, Linda Stivener of Robinson, son, Ronnie Thorne and wife, Donna of Robinson, grandchildren, Sherri Carrillo, David Hill, April Stivener, Jeremy Stivener and Andy Thorne, and great grandchildren, Ashley and Brendan Carrillo, sister, Hewlett McHargue and husband, Harmon of Robinson and his 103 year old aunt, Katy Owen of Waco. Pallbearers will be Andy Thorne, Ronnie Thorne, Jeremy Stivener, David Hill, Ashley Carrillo and Ramon Carrillo. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Dr. Lauren Barron and Hillcrest Community Hospice, especially to Kim, Kristi, Charles, Connie and Harold all of which so lovingly cared for Hollis.
