Ida S. Cooke

COOKE, IDA S. Ida S. Cooke, age 88, of Waco passed away Saturday, December 14, 2002 at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, December 21 at Ridgecrest Retirement Center. Arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Cooke was born January 6, 1914, the eighth child of nine born, to Julius Alexander and Mary Rose Schulz. She lived most of her life in Waco and worked as a bookkeeper until she retired in her late seventies. During her life she was a loving daughter, sister, mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a faithful member of the Christian Science Church. She shared her faith with all those around her and provided a constant reminder that God was always near. Ida loved her family and friends and enjoyed cooking, canning, quilting and making ceramics for them. She would travel long distances to visit her family for holidays and special occasions. She taught us many things and the most important were honesty, integrity, perseverance, faith and the importance of family and friends. Everything that made her who she was will be missed by all of those who loved her.They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Survivors include her sister, Hilda Smith; son, Richard Wayne Bateman and wife, Linda; step-daughter, Jan Hart and husband, Charles and their sons, Mark, Andrew, and Adam; grandson, Andrew Bateman; granddaughters, Catherine Gilliland, Donna Hogg, and Cynthia Lee and their husbands; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
