Ima Joy Gandler October 25, 1929 – January 25, 2010 Ima Joy Gandler, 80, of Waco, passed away unexpectedly Monday night, January 25, 2010. Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 28, at Temple Rodef Sholom with Rabbi Mordechai Rotem officiating. Graveside service and burial will follow at Rodef Sholom Cemetery. Ima Joy was born October 25, 1929, in Waco and spent most of her life there. After attending the University of Texas, she married Jake Gandler on June 25, 1950. She was a long-time active member of Temple Rodef Sholom, serving at various times as Sisterhood president and Temple Board member. Most recently, she was Secretary of the Temple Board. Ima Joy was also a long-standing active member of the Texas Jewish Historical Society, where she continued to serve as the group’s archivist. She was also a multi-year board member of the Greater Waco Interfaith Conference. Ima Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Nate and Miriam Borschow Chodorow, her brother, Stanley Ray Chodorow, and her husband of 41 years, Jake Gandler. She is survived by loving children, Michaele Brown and husband, Michael; Laura; and Howard Gandler and partner, Karen Ireland; adoring grandchildren, Eric Brown and Dori Brown; and fond sister-in-law, Sylvia Solomon. She is also survived by 9 nieces and nephews and their families, and numerous cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Temple Rodef Sholom or the Texas Jewish Historical Society.
