Ira Owen Loosier

November 12, 1919 — September 21, 2014

The Story of "Super" Ira Owen Loosier also known as Shorty Ira Owen Loosier left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 21, 2014. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 25 from 11:30-1:00 with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco. He was born on November 12, 1919 in Ennis, Texas to Prince and Pearlie Loosier. He grew up in and around that area and was one of eight children. As a teenager, Super was proud to serve in the CCC Camps in Arizona from ages 16-20. Super worked as a truck driver for Nabisco products for 42 years, delivering cookies and crackers all across the state. His daughter, Faye and son, Alan, remember a single father that worked long hours to support them, but also an ever-present father. They were his great treasure and gave him complete joy. One of Faye's fondest memories is when her Daddy saved up to buy her a pair of professional roller skates. Alan remembers how his Dad saved him and Faye when their mother died tragically and brought them to be with him. He lovingly included their half-brother John as a full-fledged member of their family. Alan and John remember adventurous rides in the Nabisco truck riding shotgun with Super and summer trips to Arkansas. Super also loved to fish, play the guitar, and helping to build houses. His grandchildren fondly remember those Saturday morning trips after breakfast, speeding up and down the hills of Laguna Park, screaming at the top of his lungs on the hills, to get candy at Exxon. He often had a whim to jump off the boat dock fully clothed and play "Rock the Raft" with all of the kids. In his later years and after retirement, he loved to go drink coffee with his buddies down at the Lake Whitney Dam caf and was the proud president of the "Dead Peckers Club". As in many families, the family tree has branches that can shoot out from the roots in all directions. However, few trees are built with "Super" roots. Super didn't just include biological family into his home his roots of love and acceptance branched out to touch the lives of so many. Above all, he was a devoted father to his daughter Faye, his son, Alan, and their brother, John, embraced by strings of love and not biology. He was a caretaker to his mother Pearlie and a lifelong caregiver to his brother, Elton. Super's lifelong friends and constant companions, Curtis and Catherine Tamplin, preceded him in death in 1984 and 1998 respectively. Super is survived by his daughter, Faye Loosier, and her husband Bob Pornovets of Crestview, Florida his son, Alan Loosier, and his wife, Sharon, of Waxahachie and his bonus son, John Powell and his wife, Peggy, of West Hills, California. He is survived by his grandchildren, Penny Kelly, Dawn Kelly Roque and her husband, Otto, Malachi Kelly and his wife, Jessica, Jennifer Loosier Wilson, and her husband, Wes, Stefanie Powell of Agoura Hills, California and her children, Cameron and Tori, and Melisa Powell Shackelford and her husband, Steven of Chatsworth, California, and their children, Jack, Belle, and Aubrey. He is survived by 9 great-grandchildren, Spencer and wife Kristen, Megan, Rigan, Garryn, Jordan Faye, Georgia, Brady, and Bryce Owen. He was blessed to have seen pictures of his new great-great grandchild, Owen Sawyer, born just 2 months ago. He is also survived by his siblings, brother Odis Loosier and wife Cora of Kyle, Rachel McAdams of Irving, Ruth Rhinehart of Ft. Worth, and Faye Lowery of Denton, as well numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Prince and Pearlie Loosier, brothers Elton and Rufus Loosier, and sister Alta Gibbs Loosier. The family would like to lovingly recognize his extended family branches, all whom Super considered to be a part of his family: His extension branches included Dan and Tony Eldredge of Joseph City, Arizona, Rob Toon of Caldwell, Idaho, William Toon of Beaumont, Mike and Monica Evans of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Pris Lane of Las Vegas, Nevada, Bob and Nena Wallace of Waco, Ed, Candy, and Becky Loveland, Karen Loveland Safford, and Lane and Annie Johnson all of Waxahachie. As the honorary Mayor of Greenwood Loop in Laguna Park, he adored his precious friends and neighbors Brent and Joyce, Rodger and Donna, Don and Sallie, Carl and Loretta Floyd, Doak and Cathy, Phyllis, Charlotte, Don and Betty, and the Welch family.
