Irene Burton Conner August 26, 1918 February 17, 2012 Irene Burton Conner passed away February 17, 2012 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Elgin, Texas. Visitation will be Monday, February 20, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. She was born to Robert Lee and Clara Burton, August 26, 1918, in Crawford, Texas. After graduating from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, Irene began her career as a dietician, first for the VA Hospital in Waco, Texas and then moved to a position at Baylor Baptist University. She was dietician for Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth and finally served as the dietician for Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. While attending Mary Hardin Baylor, she met the love of her life Charles D Conner. They married in 1942 and began a long and wonderful relationship lasting 67 years until his passing in 2009. Survivors include her sons: James Charles and wife, Maxine, of Georgetown, Texas, Michael H. and wife, Robin, of New Caney, Texas; seven grandchildren: James Edmond Conner of Balmorhea, Texas, Patrick Bryan Conner and wife, T. J., of Killeen, Texas, Candace Caye Kabela and husband Michael of Amsterdam, Holland, Charles D Conner and wife, Cristen, of Waco, Texas, Erin Paige Maggard and husband, Aaron, of Lorena, Texas, Michaelina Sirkel and husband, Jason, of Huntsville, Texas, and Jacob Burton Conner and wife, Aeriel, of Temple, Texas and 11 great-grandchildren.
