Iris Bowen Broughton March 18, 1926 July 5, 2008 Iris Bowen Broughton of Waco, Texas and Knoxville, TN passed away bravely and peacefully, Saturday, July 05, 2008 at the St. Mary's Hospice. Iris will come home to Texas where there will be a graveside service 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Oakwood Cemetery. Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey will be in charge of the services. Born in Killeen, TX on March 18, 1926 she attended Texas Women's University and married Travis W. Broughton in 1944. Iris lived in Waco, Texas until 1998 when she reluctantly moved to Knoxville, TN to recover from lung cancer. Iris was a member of Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church in Waco for over forty years, and Bearden United Methodist Church in Knoxville. She volunteered in Knoxville at St. Mary's Hospital, The Florence Crittenton Agency, The Wellness Community of East Tennessee, and as a Phone Buddy for the Lung Cancer Alliance. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Luci Bowen; and her beloved husband, Travis Ward Broughton. She is survived by sons, Travis Broughton Jr. and wife, Jeanne Fehler of Meridian, TX; John Broughton and wife, Teresa of Bixby, Oklahoma; daughter, Pam Bustamante and husband, Luis of Knoxville, TN; and by her grandchildren, who brought her so much joy, Jennifer Broughton Sallee, Tad Broughton, Chris Bustamante, Alyson Bustamante Jones, Travis Bustamante, and great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Emerson Bustamante. Iris will be missed by all whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church, 1201 West Highway 6, Waco, TX 76710.
