ISRAEL ELI BERKMAN Israel Eli Berkman, age 90, of Amarillo, formerly of Waco, died Saturday, October 4, 2003 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:30pm Sunday, October 5, 2003 at Agudath Jacob Cemetery with Elliot Wolpo officiating. Services under the direction of Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Eli Berkman was born November 19, 1912 in Waco, Texas. He graduated from Waco High School. He continued his education graduating from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He also attended and graduated from Baylor Dental School in Dallas, Texas. Upon graduating from Dental School, Dr. Berkman entered the Medical Corp Division of the United States Army during WWII. During his army duty Dr. Berkman was stationed in Dalhart and Victoria, Texas. Following his honorable discharge as a Major, he served an internship at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas. He later returned to Waco to open a private dental practice. He was Board certified to practice dentistry not only in Texas but also in the state of Michigan. He was an honored member of The Texas Dental Society. Dr. Berkman also received a Lifetime Achievement Award for 50 years of dental service from the Dental Association. At the time of his retirement, he was the oldest practicing dentist in Waco. Dr. Berkman was a member of Congregation Agudath Jacob and the Waco chapter of B’nai B’rith. Dr. Berkman was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Ida Frankford Berkman, and a sister Flora Epstein. He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Berkman Mooring and husband Matt; four grandchildren, Joshua, Amanda, Michael and McKenzie. The family suggest memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Research or CAN Cure Autism Now Foundation WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
